Open Teachers Community

After having provided a study (Educational Framework) and capacity building tools (through the Open Online Course), the final output of the PEACE Education project aims at creating a community of interest totally dedicated to professionals – teachers, but also any other stakeholders working in the education sector – committed to peace education!

Beyond the individual capacity building that the Educational Framework and Open Online Course offer, the ultimate goal is to connect educators from around the globe. Through this community, users will be able to exchange on issues related to peace education and conflict management, at school and at the society levels. The project partners are convinced that horizontal peer to peer capacity building and exchange are key methods to initiate valuable changes at the global level and as a powerful lever for action, hence this latest output will complement the two previously developed outputs.

Why a platform?

A preliminary analysis of the needs of the teachers involved in the project demonstrated their need for peer exchange. Most teachers / educators expressed a desire to learn from other professionals in their field, to learn about practices conducted elsewhere and to receive practical input to the theory provided by the courses. Indeed, the target beneficiaries really emphasized the value of exchanging expertise as equals and being able to benefit from being listened to, supported and advised on potential challenges. In particular, mentoring by more experienced fellow teachers was identified as a method that they would appreciate when dealing with situations of conflicts at school, such as active listening and problem solving sessions with other teachers. They expressed the fact that regardless of their level of expertise and knowledge on this field, it could be constantly reinforced by sharing with more or less experienced peers.
